Representing Offshore Oil Rig Workers in Southern Mississippi
If you have been injured on an offshore oil rig accident in the Gulf of Mexico, you are not covered by Mississippi workers' compensation. Instead, you may be entitled to full compensation for your injuries under a federal law known as the Jones Act.
I am attorney Ray Price. From my law office in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, I represent employees of oil drilling companies such as Ensco, Exxon, Texaco, Cimarex, Chevron and Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) who have been injured on the job while working on jack-up rigs and other offshore oil drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. I offer a free initial consultation to explain your rights.
What is the Jones Act?
The Jones Act is a federal law that protects people who are injured as a member of a crew on a vessel. "Vessels" include any type of movable craft, including oil rigs, semi-submersible rigs and jack-ups.
The Jones Act generally provides more compensation to injured workers than is provided under workers' compensation. Under the Jones Act, you can receive compensation for lost wages, loss of future earning capacity, pain and suffering, disfigurement, future medical expenses, and other damages.
In order to receive compensation you will need to prove negligence on the part of your employer. For this reason, you should hire an attorney as soon as possible. Every oil rig has a safety employee who will likely shade the evidence in favor your employer. Without a lawyer to find and preserve evidence that supports your case, you may not receive the compensation you deserve.
